We tried many different products and techniques for breeding our dart frogs, and there were issues we experienced along the way. Removing products that attached via suction cup once it was full of eggs/tadpoles was risky, and our frogs weren't interested unless the pool was very well-concealed under foliage, which made monitoring egg-laying difficult. We also found that our frogs rarely approached pools that were brightly colored.
Our solution was a hooded mount with removable pools. The hood and the dark color of our Tadwalls provide privacy and security for the frogs, allowing them to feel safe while laying and tending to their eggs. The removable pools allow you to remove a single clutch from the tank for monitoring, and replace it with a new pool without fighting suction cups. A slight indention on the tops of the pegs ensure your pools will not fall off, and the back of the wall is secured to glass with 3 suction cups.
Our group of four Ranitomeya Amazonica "Iquitos" can attest; they had been calling for months, since the day they arrived, and showed no egg-laying behaviors. They had several options for laying, but had never even hopped inside. Within 48 hours of providing them with our Tadwall design, we had eggs!
